The Youth Development Strategy Table (YDST) is seeking applications for our second Youth Advocacy Subcommittee (YAS) cohort! This is a great opportunity for young people interested in learning more about public policy, Washington state politics, and how to expand youth programs in their community. Participants will gain hands-on experience in leadership development, project management, strategic thinking, and civic engagement.

We’re looking for young people who are:

  • Between the ages of 16-24
  • Living in Washington state
  • Current or recent participants in a youth development program
  • Interested in policy/advocacy work

About the cohort

The subcommittee will convene at the beginning of November and meet through the end of April 2027. We will largely meet virtually 1-2 times per week on average, and will organize one mandatory in-person convening on January 18, 2027 (MLK Day) in Olympia, WA. YAS members will be given advocacy training and political education and will be expected to participate in advocacy actions during the 2027 legislative session.

Compensation

All participants will be compensated with a $500 stipend and will be offered lodging and transportation support for the in-person convening.

How to apply

Submit this application form by October 16 at 5:00 PM. Reach out to Radu Smintina at rsmintina@schoolsoutwashington.org with any questions.
