Spring 2021 Washington Youth Development Nonprofit Relief Fund Awardees

In the spring of 2021, the Washington State Department of Commerce and School’s Out Washington worked together to allocate $4.8 million in additional funding to support investments in 223 youth development organizations/programs across Washington. The additional funds were awarded to a subset of organizations that submitted applications to the Washington Nonprofit Youth Development Relief Fund in the fall of 2020.

• Second-time awards were made to a total of 197 high-scoring applicants from the fall 2020 relief fund applications prioritizing investments outside of King County to address statewide disparity in funding access.
• First-time awards were made to 26 high-scoring applicants in King County to address the highly competitive process in this region. Due to the high volume of applications from King County in the fall, fewer organizations/programs in the region were funded to meet geographic equity funding goals.

Decisions on award amounts were based on funding targets established for each region to ensure equitable distribution of funds across Washington. In both fall 2020 and spring 2021, two key data points specific to each region anchored the amount of funds distributed: 1) youth 18 and younger living in poverty; and 2) Black, Indigenous, and youth of color, 18 and younger.
