As a second-generation Cambodian-American, Malea grew up in an immigrant household and was the first in her family to graduate from college. Prior to joining SOWA, Malea worked as a union organizer where she supported the leadership and political power-building of workers in Snohomish, Skagit, Island, and Whatcom County.

She is inspired by the stories and impact that come from investing in youth development and is eager to work with SOWA’s community partners to continue that work in Washington.
