Important links:
School’s Out Washington (SOWA) is seeking to bring in 4-5 new board members to serve 3-year terms.
As a board member for SOWA, you will have the opportunity to:
- Support creating lasting, equitable opportunities for children and youth across the state
- Oversee and guide important policies and practices to ensure SOWA’s long-term impact and sustainability
- Serve as a leader and connector with our advocacy coalition, annual Bridge Conference, and community partnerships
We’re looking for board members who:
- Have experience working in youth development or education, either directly with programs or in a policy, training, or funding capacity
- Are closely connected to the communities we serve, with a priority for candidates who are BIPOC and those who are connected to the realities of youth programs across Washington, especially outside of King County
- Bring a strong equity lens and practice and would value working in a cross-racial, cross-generational board working to center relationships and advance equity internally and externally
- Can commit to spending 4-6 hours per month on board work, including attending board meetings and being an ambassador for SOWA in your community
Most meetings are held virtually to enable board member participation through all parts of our state. There are 1-2 in-person retreats per year that rotate around the state.
